Travis C. Smith

April 14, 1979 — June 30, 2025

Travis C. Smith, age 46, of Northville, formerly of Silverdale, Washington, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on June 30, 2025. He was born on April 14, 1979 in Hampton Roads, Virginia; son of Dimitri Smith and Elane Garner.

Travis graduated from Central Kitsap High School in Silverdale, Washington; Class of 1997. He went on to pursue higher education at Eastern Michigan University, where he earned an associate degree in computer science, a bachelor's degree in information technology, and a master's degree in cyber security. In 2021, Travis began a successful career with Willis Towers Watson, where he served as a Lead Information and Cyber Security Engineer.

Travis was an avid gamer with a deep appreciation for classic games. He enjoyed collecting gaming equipment of all kinds and took pride in his extensive comic book collection. Travis liked relaxing with a good television show and horror films in the fall. He enjoyed attending professional wrestling events with his sister - a favorite activity of theirs from childhood. A passionate Dungeons & Dragons player, he cherished the time spent adventuring with friends. Travis was known for his sharp wit and dry, dark sense of humor that could bring laughter even in the most unexpected moments. He also had a creative side in the kitchen, often experimenting with new recipes and delighting others with his delicious meals.

Travis cared deeply for his family and especially loved his mom. A natural caregiver, he devoted himself to lovingly caring for her during her illness. After her passing, Travis chose to remain in Michigan to care for his aunt, who in turn supported him in pursuing his higher education. His selflessness and generosity were defining traits; he was the first to offer help, never hesitating to turn his compassion for others into meaningful action.

Travis’ time in Michigan became a period of personal growth, marked by the close relationship he formed with his uncle, Mark Asteriou, who became a father figure to him. The two shared many meaningful walks around Northville and a strong, supportive bond. Travis also loved spending time with his extended family and was always up for new experiences. He enjoyed traveling and especially cherished trips to the Outer Banks, Mackinaw City, and Mackinac Island.

Travis is survived by his loving sisters, Teel (Jessie Long) O’Brien-Long and Erin Smith; his aunts, Ellen Garner and Eileen (Mark) Asteriou; his cousins, Heather (Nick McAlister) Asteriou and Cat (Dustin Bintliff) Asteriou; and his second cousins, Andy and Benny. He was preceded in death by his mom, Elane Garner and his aunt, Edie Garner.

A private service will be held honoring his love for gaming. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 29777 Telegraph Road, Suite 1451, Southfield, MI 48034.
