Susan A. Weschler, age 90, of Northville, formerly a longtime resident of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away on September 30, 2025. She was born June 7, 1935 in Cleveland; daughter of Roy and Genevieve (Kearns) McCormick. A member of the National Honor Society, she graduated from Garfield Heights High School in Garfield Heights, Ohio with the class of 1953. Susan was united in marriage to Joseph Weschler on April 24, 1970; they spent 7 years lovingly devoted to one another until his death on February 6, 1978.
Sue dedicated more than 23 years of service to the city of Rocky River, Ohio. She began her career in the Clerk of Council’s office before becoming the executive secretary to the mayor. She later finished her career in the Building and Safety Service Departments, retiring in 2002. Throughout her years of service, Sue was highly regarded for her skill and professionalism, as an exceptionally skilled typist and a master of shorthand. While she had lived most of her life in the Cleveland area, following retirement Sue moved around the country to be closer to her children, living in Oregon, Texas, North Carolina, and finally, Michigan.
Sue embraced life and was always eager to try something new. Over the years, she explored a wide range of interests, taking classes in Tai Chi, fencing, and exploring transcendental meditation. She later fell in love with line dancing, participating in competitions with her friends in senior living and even teaching classes. Sue took great pride in keeping her mind active and engaged. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and had a keen interest in politics and current events, always staying well-informed.
A constant was her love of music. From a young age, she cherished the times when her mother played the piano and the siblings would gather to sing together. Later, she and her siblings carried on that tradition, delighting family and friends with their own musical performances. Sue’s musical tastes were varied as they were meaningful to her, ranging from Irish melodies to Barbra Streisand and Willie Nelson, along with a fondness for musicals and showtunes.
Her bond with her siblings remained a source of joy throughout her life. When she relocated from Cleveland to Oregon, they joined her for the cross-country journey, a memory that became the foundation for their cherished “sib trips.” For almost two decades, these adventures took them to destinations such as the California coast, the Mediterranean, Northern Ireland, and Southern Ireland, creating treasured memories.
Sue had a lifelong love of the beach, a joy she discovered during childhood visits to Delaware and later to New Jersey. She went on to create her own special tradition, gathering with her family each year to spend Thanksgiving at Gulf Shores, Alabama. Sue will be remembered for her wit, her smile, and the many joyful memories she leaves behind. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
Sue is survived by her loving children, Rae (Mike) DeBrock, Janice (Mike) LaRouere, Rick (Vicky) Rosinski, John (Fran) Rosinski, and Matthew (Mindy) Weschler; her grandchildren, Kim DeBrock, Carol DeBrock, Jackie (Christopher) Metz, Steve (McKenzie) LaRouere, Jessie (Doug) Marsán, Rick (Loralei) Rosinski, Ryan Rosinski, Katie (Joe) Joyce, Michelle Rosinski, Hannah Weschler, and Drew Weschler; great grandchildren, Lily Metz, Jimmy Metz, Colette LaRouere, Oscar Joyce, and Marson Rosinski; her siblings, Kay (Bob) Bechtel, Dick (Amy) McCormick, and Mariellen Horgan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Bob McCormick, and her sister-in-law Bette McCormick.
