Robert F. MacKenzie

September 20, 1935 — May 19, 2026

Robert Frank MacKenzie, age 90, of Novi, passed away on May 18, 2026. He was born on September 20, 1935, in Jackson, Michigan, the son of Ralph L. and Florence M. (Smith) MacKenzie. Bob was united in marriage to Roema Lee Rohlfs on July 27, 1957. Together they shared more than 68 years devoted to love, family, and a life built side by side until her passing on April 22, 2026.

Affectionately known as Bob to family and friends, he was raised in Clawson and graduated from Clawson High School with the Class of 1952. He went on to attend Alma College before pausing his studies to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Serving as a Communications Specialist, Bob proudly fulfilled his military duties before continuing his education at the University of Michigan, where he earned a degree in engineering.

Bob was a dedicated employee of Rockwell International for 30 years, retiring in 1995. Among his proudest accomplishments was helping develop hydraulic wheelchair-access systems for buses, improving accessibility and independence for countless individuals. Bob was known for his strong work ethic, but he also understood the importance of enjoying life and making the most of time spent with family and friends.

Bob and Roema Lee spent more than 45 years raising their family in Troy before moving to Rochester Hills, then California, and finally back to Novi to be close to their eldest son. Bob was a devoted member of University Presbyterian Church, where he faithfully served as a Deacon. He enjoyed traveling, playing bridge with friends, and studying history. Many of his vacations were thoughtfully chosen for the cultural experiences and opportunities they provided to learn more about historical places and events.

Bob was an avid reader who also enjoyed woodworking, creating pieces that reflected his delicate and intricate craftsmanship. He loved spending time outdoors and especially treasured moments with his grandsons. Bob was always willing to lend a helping hand and could fix just about anything. He will be remembered as a friendly, upbeat, and genuinely kind man who brought warmth to those around him. Bob will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Bob is survived by his sons, Stephen (Joanne) MacKenzie and Philip (Casaundra) MacKenzie; his grandsons, Alexander, Evan (Laura), Ryan, and Cristofer; and his brothers, Donald (Connie) MacKenzie and David MacKenzie. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

A private graveside service will be held at Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove, Michigan.
