Richard J. Schneider

Apr 29, 1926 — Sep 17, 2026

Richard J. Schneider, age 100, longtime resident of Northville passed away on September 17, 2026. He was born on April 29, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Rudolph and Rose (Arch) Schneider. Dick was united in marriage to Karen A. Johnson on September 9, 1972; they spent 54 years lovingly devoted to one another.

Just one month after graduating from high school, Dick answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army during World War II. He proudly served as a Private First Class with the 36th Armored Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Armored Division. Shortly after returning home from his service overseas, Dick began a long and rewarding career with Detroit Edison. A dedicated and hardworking employee, he took great pride in his work and genuinely enjoyed his career. After 40 years of devoted service, Dick retired as an underground lineman.

Dick was a proud member of VFW Post 4012 in Northville, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow veterans from all branches of the military and across generations. He also generously gave his time to the Highland Lakes Condominium Association, volunteering whenever he could and especially enjoying his involvement with social events.

Dick believed in staying active and taking care of himself throughout his life. In his younger years, he enjoyed running, and later in life, he became an avid walker. He could often be found walking around his neighborhood for hours. He also enjoyed swimming and was a member of a local scuba diving club, exploring Curtis Lake and other lakes throughout the area.

Above all, Dick was devoted to his family. He was a wonderful, hands-on father and grandfather who worked hard to provide for and care for those he loved. He cherished time spent with his family and brought plenty of laughter to their lives with his wonderful sense of humor. One of his favorite responses perfectly captured his quick wit: whenever someone asked him how he was feeling, Dick would reply, “With my two hands.” His love, humor, and devotion to his family will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Dick is survived by his wife Karen A. Schneider; his children, Christine (Matt) Inman, Deborah (Tom) Denes, John (Mary) Fauer, and Kathleen (Roland) Kelly; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Larry Schneider and Michael Fauer; and his siblings, Donna Martinez, Rosemary Bolohan, and Douglas Schneider
