Nola Mae Hykal

Dec 19, 1922 — Jun 25, 2026

Nola M. Hykal, age 103, of Northville, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026. She was born on December 19, 1922, in Sugar Tree, Tennessee, to Ernest and Bessie (Blakeman) Conrad. On June 6, 1942, she married the love of her life, John Hykal. Together they shared more than 64 years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and unwavering devotion to one another until John's passing.

Raised in Sugar Tree, Tennessee, Nola moved to Northville in 1943, where she made her home for more than 83 years. She was a devoted homemaker who poured her heart into caring for her family and creating a warm, welcoming home. She brought the cherished recipes and traditions of her Southern upbringing to Michigan, delighting family and friends with the delicious home-cooked meals she prepared, just as her mother had taught her.

Nola had a remarkable gift for gardening and was blessed with a true green thumb. Her flourishing vegetable garden produced an abundance of fresh produce that became the foundation for many memorable family meals. She was also an exceptionally talented seamstress whose creativity and craftsmanship were admired by all who knew her. Among her most treasured accomplishments were the beautiful wedding gowns she lovingly created for her daughter and granddaughter. She also enjoyed quilting, making countless heirloom quilts that will continue to be cherished for generations.

Family was the heart of Nola's life. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved, especially fishing trips where they could enjoy the peaceful beauty of the outdoors together. She also looked forward to attending military reunions with John and their family, traveling throughout the United States and rarely missing an opportunity to reconnect with dear friends while creating lasting memories.

Nola's kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering love for her family defined her life. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, beloved aunt, and loyal friend. Her legacy of love, generosity, and dedication to family will continue to live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.

Nola is survived by her children, Frank (Ann) Hykal and Frances (Wayne) West; her daughter-in-law Barbara Hykal; her grandchildren, Nancy (Ken) Moore, Andrew Hykal, Cynthia (Rich) Eckley, and Allen West; her great grandchildren, Brett Fellows, Dylan (Sarah) Fellows, Julia (Aaron) Lindlbaer, Ivan Danielski, and MacKenzie Hykal; and her great-great grandchildren, Lucas and Aurora.
