Nancy C. Burch, age 87, of Northville, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on October 17, 1938, in Monticello, Indiana, the daughter of Robert and Maxine (Zirkle) Hodgin. On May 16, 1964, Nancy was united in marriage to Charles H. Burch, and together they shared more than 61 years devoted to building a loving family and living out their faith in God.
Nancy grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she graduated from South Side High School, Class of 1956. After high school graduation she attended Fort Wayne Bible College then after 2 years she transferred to Ball State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
Nancy began a teaching career at Roosevelt Elementary School, where she taught fifth and sixth grade students. After relocating with her family to Pennsylvania, she continued her passion for education in the Abington Township School District. Known for her ever-present “red pen,” Nancy lovingly challenged her students to improve, learn, reach their fullest potential, and write a good paper. She later stepped away from teaching to focus on raising her family before returning to the classroom in 1986 at Summit Baptist Academy. There, she faithfully served until her retirement in 1998 as teaching principal. Never one to remain idle, Nancy then embraced a new opportunity as a travel agent with Pilgrim Tours, where she also enjoyed serving as a tour group leader. Her organizational skills and diligence helped her excel in her career.
Nancy was a devoted member of Berean Baptist Church and formerly worshiped at Evangel Baptist Church and High Point Baptist Chapel. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life, beginning at the age of sixteen when her brother Ron led her to Christ. While raising her family and working as a teacher, Nancy faithfully partnered with her husband, Charles, in church ministry throughout Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and New York. Wherever they served, Nancy shared her God-given gift of teaching the Bible, inspiring women through classes, conferences, and personal encouragement.
Growing up, Nancy enjoyed fishing with her parents and playing sports such as tennis and baseball. Her athletic talents led her to play for the Daisies team in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in Fort Wayne. She was also an accomplished majorette, proudly leading parades and performing in football halftime shows in her hometown. Nancy took great pride in keeping an organized home and raising her children with strong values. She was a gifted seamstress who lovingly made her children’s clothing when they were young and later created beautiful formal attire for special occasions. Nancy was also a wonderful baker and talented cook, preparing countless delicious meals from the vegetables she grew in her garden and preserving foods through canning for seasons to come. Later in life, Nancy found joy in tabletop games and completing puzzles. A no-nonsense wife, mother, and grandmother, she devoted her life to her family and her faith. Nancy will be remembered always for the care, strength, and love she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Nancy is survived by husband Charles; her children, Kim Casement, Mark R. Burch, Keri (Michael) Pierce, and Kristie (Joe) Jaroszewski; her brother Fred Hodgin; her grandchildren, Nate (Maria) Casement, David (Kalee) Casement, Emily Casement, Sarah Casement, Evan (Noel) Casement, Hope Casement, Aeden Burch, Ethan (Vanessa) Pierce, Brendan Pierce, Logan Pierce, Riley Pierce, Anika Jaroszewski, Grady Jaroszewski, Sam Jaroszewski, and Wesley Jaroszewski; and her great grandchildren, Morgan, Maxine, Charlotte, and Amelia.
