Mary Messenger, age 72, of Novi, passed away May 21, 2026. She was born October 13, 1953 in Reseda, California; daughter of Charles Almeron and Marie Eva (Olds) Fox. Mary graduated from John Glen High School in Westland with the class of 1971. She continued her education at Henry Ford Community College where she earned an associate’s degree in administrative assistance. Mary was united in marriage to Gene Messenger on September 27, 1975 and they spent 50 years lovingly devoted to one another.
Mary spent much of her career as a respected and dedicated presence in the automotive industry, serving at both Ford Motor Company and General Motors. She carried herself with professionalism, grace, and a warmth that left an impression on everyone who knew her.
She was always beautifully put together; never a hair out of place, impeccably fashionable, and possessed manners and social grace that could have put Emily Post herself to shame. Mary appreciated beauty in all things, from a well-set table to the companionship of her cherished cats, Chloe and Lucy.
But above all else, Mary’s greatest joy in life was her family. Becoming a grandmother to Charles was, in her eyes, the best day of her life, and she embraced every moment that followed with endless pride and love. And four years later, her heart grew even more full with the birth of Jonathan, the perfect last piece of the puzzle. Her devotion to Charles and Jonathan was unmatched, and she loved her family fiercely enough to make them believe they could conquer the world.
Mary will be remembered for her elegance, strength, warmth, unwavering love, and the steady presence she provided to those fortunate enough to call her theirs. Her absence leaves an immeasurable space in the hearts of her family and friends, but the love and lessons she gave so freely will remain with them always.
Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Gene Messenger; her daughters, Sarah (Nick) Bloom and Emily (Miri Vukaj) Messenger; and her beloved grandsons, Charles and Jonathan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles A. Fox and Marie Fox.
The Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. She will be laid to rest at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to Detroit Dog Rescue, PO Box 806119, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080.
