Leonard S. Friedman Jr.

November 4, 1952 — December 3, 2025

Leonard S. Friedman, Jr., age 73 of Northville, passed away suddenly on December 3, 2025. Len, known by his family and friends, was born on November 4, 1952 in Youngstown, Ohio. He was the son of Leonard S. and Mary Louise (Hura) Friedman. On June 10, 1978, he married the love of his life, Meredith Wachter. They shared more than 45 devoted years together until her passing on July 28, 2023.

Len grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, and graduated from Ursuline High School with the Class of 1970. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Youngstown State University before beginning a successful career in sales within the fire protection industry. His work led him from Ohio to West Virginia and ultimately to Michigan, where he made his home in Novi from 1984 until settling in Northville in 2011. Known for his outstanding personality and unwavering integrity, Len excelled as a sales manager. He was employed with Wolverine Fire Protection at the time of his passing.

A “gearhead” from a young age, Len had a deep passion for classic cars and possessed an impressive knowledge of makes and models. He also loved spending time on his boat, finding peace and contentment on the water. Sports were a constant presence throughout his childhood, shaping his lifelong enthusiasm. He played football in high school and became a devoted Ohio State fan, as well as a loyal supporter of the Cleveland Browns. After moving to Michigan, he also became a proud Detroit Pistons season ticket holder.

Len loved to talk and had a natural gift for connecting with others. A great storyteller with a warm sense of humor, he made friends wherever he went. His personality was truly one-of-a-kind, impossible to replicate. His love, laughter, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Len is survived by his sister Mary (Mike) Slattery; his niece Elizabeth (Tony Bishop) Slattery; and his great nieces, Chloe and Savannah. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

A celebration of Len’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared here once available. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
