Kurt D. Borseth

Apr 11, 1969 — Oct 7, 2026

Kurt D. Borseth, age 57, of Northville, formerly a longtime resident of Livonia, passed away on October 7, 2026. He was born on April 11, 1969 in Royal Oak, Michigan; son of John and Barbara (Klein) Borseth.

Kurt graduated from Lahser High School in Bloomfield Hills with the Class of 1987. During his high school years, he was an accomplished tennis player, whose team consistently made it to the state finals. He continued his education at Michigan State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Kurt began his career in sales at Ingersoll CM Systems in Midland, where he worked for several years before accepting a position with Boll Filter Corporation in Novi. He spent the past 26 years as a sales manager, earning the respect of his coworkers and clients through his strong work ethic and dedication. Kurt was always the first to arrive in the morning and the last to leave at the end of the day. His career took him throughout the United States, attending trade shows and expos in Houston, Buffalo, and Denver, as well as frequent trips to Germany, where the company was headquartered. Kurt developed close relationships with his bosses and was instrumental in helping them adjust to life in the United States. His friendship and assistance played an important role in their decision to remain in the area and maintain the company's presence in America. Kurt took great pride in his work, but above all, providing for his family was his priority. His dedication never wavered, and he continued working until the week before his passing.

Kurt was a talented athlete who enjoyed a variety of sports throughout his life. Growing up, he spent much of his time playing golf and tennis at Pine Lake Country Club, where his parents were members. His love of golf continued into adulthood, and he especially looked forward to annual summer trips to Harbor Springs, where he enjoyed spending quality time with family and playing one of his favorite courses, Birchwood Farms. Kurt was committed to staying physically active and maintained a daily fitness routine that included going to the gym after work and completing 100 pushups each day. He also enjoyed biking, running, and skiing.

Kurt was an avid sports fan who loved cheering on Michigan State football and basketball, as well as the Detroit Red Wings and Lions. He was very handy and enjoyed tackling projects around the house, including yard work. He was meticulous and organized, especially when it came to his workbench, where every tool had its place. Kurt enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether grilling on his deck or watching the deer wander through his backyard. He had a great appreciation for music, especially his favorite band, The Who. He also enjoyed watching movies, particularly a good thriller or his favorite comedy, Wedding Crashers.

Kurt had an outgoing personality and a natural ability to connect with others. He brought joy and laughter to those around him and was always ready for a good time. He especially enjoyed all-inclusive vacations to Cancun, Mexico, where he could relax and have fun. Affectionately known as “MR” to his children's friends, Kurt shared a special bond with them and looked forward to hosting an annual party on December 23rd, a tradition everyone enjoyed. Often the life of the party, Kurt loved being surrounded by family and friends. Known as “KB” to his own friends, he maintained many lifelong friendships dating back to elementary school. He was incredibly social, enjoyed good conversation, and never turned down an opportunity to get together with friends, especially over a gin and tonic. Kurt's great sense of humor made him someone people loved to be around.

Kurt’s world revolved around his family, and being a devoted father was one of his greatest joys. He captured countless family memories on video throughout the years and was always present to support his children in their activities. When he wasn't working, he could be found attending cheerleading, dance, or soccer practices and games. His weekends were dedicated to spending time with his kids. His involvement as a father did not go unnoticed, as a neighbor once remarked that he had never seen a dad spend so much time playing with his children. Kurt was a hands-on, loving father who truly cherished every moment with his family. His love also extended to his beloved Welsh Terriers, Lois and Logan, who were his faithful companions.

Throughout his battle with cancer, Kurt demonstrated incredible strength, courage, and determination. Plain and simple, he was a warrior and as tough as nails. He faced his diagnosis without complaint and remained willing to pursue new treatments, despite the challenges and side effects they brought. His strong will to live carried him through his illness, and he continued fighting until the very end. Kurt will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Kurt is survived by his loving children, Alexandra (Alex Edwards) Borseth, Andrea Borseth, and Scott Borseth; his sister Jennifer (Paul) Gurzell; his nephews, Kyle (Sydney) Gurzell and Brett Gurzell; his former wife of 21 years, Alison Kugler; his niece and nephew, Ava and Jack Unti; and their parents Kristen (Tim) Unti; and former mother- in-law, Carolyn Kugler. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in- law, Ramon Kugler.
