Kevin Christopher Schrot, age 66, a lifelong resident of Northville, passed away unexpectedly on December 12, 2025. He was born on July 21, 1959 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada while his family was on vacation at their cottage. He was the cherished son of James F. and Bonnie J. (Renaud) Schrot.
Kevin attended Glengardia Academy in Windsor, Cooper Annex in Livonia, and then the Western Wayne Skill Center in Livonia until the age of 26, where he received vocational training in woodworking, along with valuable life skills. He had a genuine love of learning and developed many new hobbies throughout his life. Shortly after his formal schooling he went to work as a custodian in the workshop at Corr-Pak.
Kevin had a lifelong passion and skills for lawn care, gardening and snow removal. He was lucky enough to grow up in a house on a large lot that was considered the country at the time. As recent as this past summer and fall he used his skills and love of driving a lawn tractor, watering flowers, and raking leaves. With the early snowfall, he took advantage of using the snowblower already this year. Kevin used his lawn and yard skills to earn extra money helping the neighbors aside from maintaining his family home. He also worked for years maintaining the lawn and yard of Mr. and Mrs. James of Northville under their supervision.
He grew up surrounded by many animals. Those included deer, pheasants, and other wild animals. And in recent years many turkeys. At one time or another the family had pet bunnies, a duck, ponies, and cats, but Kevin’s favorite animal and pet was dogs. Kevin loved dogs and the family had many throughout his life. One of his favorites in his youth was their Collie Lassie. He also shared in the love of neighbors and friends dogs.
Kevin had a deep love for music and especially enjoyed listening to his favorite performers, the Beach Boys, Kenny Rogers, and Johnny Cash. At the top of his list was the Blues Brothers and the King of them all was Elvis Presley! He loved singing karaoke, and with his outgoing and charismatic personality, he was always entertaining his family and friends.
Kevin also loved celebrating holidays. He delighted in dressing up for Halloween and collecting masks. He looked forward to Christmas each year. He loved family get togethers, Christmas movies, baby Jesus and the Nativity Scene and Santa.
One of Kevin’s many loves was observing tree trimmers and their equipment, gear, and particularly the chain saws.
From an early age it was apparent that Kevin was going to be a good athlete as he had a lot of energy. His mother looked to get him involved in sports and reached out to his school and worked with his gym teacher. Through their efforts, Kevin was one of the first participants in the Michigan Special Olympics in the Northville/Western Wayne area in 1969. He began his athletic journey competing in track and field and swimming, mastering both the freestyle and butterfly strokes. In his early swimming days, his sister Carolyn taught him his strokes.
Kevin loved baseball. As he grew older, Kevin gravitated more toward team sports. Aside from baseball, he played basketball, floor hockey, team handball and soccer.
Kevin also loved bowling through the local Kiwanis Club.
Because he loved sports so much, his athletic seasons often overlapped. For many years, he was coached by his brother, Chris, who guided him for 35 years. Throughout his sports career, Kevin proudly earned many medals and trophies and participated in many State games. In 1991 Kevin had the opportunity to travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota for the International Special Olympic Games. Along with his local team and friends they won a gold medal in soccer. More importantly, Kevin developed many friendships and relationships with his fellow athletes and their families.
While he was an excellent first baseman, and had a heated shot in floor hockey, Kevin was attracted to the equipment laden position of catcher and goalie. That intertwined with his love of the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Red Wings and his love for the likes of Lance Parrish, Pudge Rodriguez and Chris Osgood. He loved to watch the Tigers and Red Wings on tv as well as attend their games. He would attend many Tiger games with his brother Chris, Mom, and other family members and friends. He had the opportunity to attend the Tigers in the ALCS and attend a World Series game in 2012.
Kevin was a devoted sports fan. Aside from the Detroit teams, Kevin was a huge University of Michigan fan. He and his Mom attended many Michigan basketball games, while his brother went to school there. They became season ticket holders ever since and so far had attended every home game this current season.
Kevin was a big NASCAR fan, with Jeff Gordon being his favorite driver. One of his most thrilling experiences was riding in full gear with a professional driver on multiple occasions. He also enjoyed riding his bicycle, playing BINGO, and visiting the Casino with his Mom and family members at times. Kevin shared many hobbies with his father, including their memorable experiences attending Civil War reenactments together. He was also a Cub Scout along with his older brother Jaymie and Kevin later became a Boy Scout.
Travel brought Kevin great joy. Special trips included a visit to Hawaii, where he had the opportunity to spend time with the University of Michigan football team, as well as trips to attend Rose Bowl games.
He enjoyed many trips throughout the years with his Mom and the IBEW Retiree Group. A lifelong Elvis fan, Kevin cherished his visit to Memphis, Tennessee, touring Graceland and soaking in every moment. They traveled from Branson, Missouri to New York City where his brother Chris joined them. Since he was a young child he loved the beach where he enjoyed a family cottage. There he enjoyed fishing with his Dad and brother Jaymie and swimming with his Mom and sister Carolyn. In later years he also loved traveling with his Mom in their motor home and joining with his family to vacation in Pentwater, Michigan camping at Mears State Park. Later they continued trips where they shared a local rental cottage with his family.
Each year he traveled to Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, with his Mom, sister and nieces. His Brother-in-Law and brother Chris joined them occasionally. There they would do shell hunting and spend lots of time in the water with his nieces, becoming some of his favorite vacation memories. Kevin enjoyed scuba and skin diving (snorkeling) and proudly collected scuba flags wherever he went.
He will be remembered for his outgoing personality, his love of music, Elvis impersonations, love of sports and his remarkable ability to light up a room simply by walking into it. Although to his family and friends, his life was cut too short. He lived a full life. As much as his Mother and Family supported him, Kevin was the lighthouse for his Mother and Family.
Kevin will be deeply missed by his family, friends and the community who loved him so dearly!
Kevin is survived by his beloved mother Bonnie Schrot; his siblings, Jaymie Schrot, Carolyn (Jeff) Jensen, and Chris Schrot; 8 nieces and nephews; and 9 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father James F. Schrot.
