Joan A. Roberts

January 24, 1935 — June 2, 2026

Joan A. Roberts, age 91 of Wixom, passed away on June 2, 2026. She was born on January 24, 1935 in Bad Axe, Michigan; daughter of Henry and Jean (Clark) Pangborn. Joan was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Guy Ronald Roberts, on May 14, 1955. Together they shared a life filled with unwavering devotion, companionship, and unconditional love for 60 years, until Ron's passing in 2015.

Joan graduated from Bad Axe High School, Class of 1952. Following high school, she attended Michigan State University. In 1967, Joan and Ron settled in Northville, where they built a wonderful life and raised their family.

Joan began her career with Michigan Bell, where she worked her way up to supervisor through hard work and dedication. After more than 20 years with the company, she retired in 1990. She then enjoyed a successful second career as a real estate agent for 10 years, where her organization and attention to detail helped her excel. Following her retirement from real estate, Joan enjoyed spending time with family and friends and spending her winters in Boca Raton or Mount Dora, Florida.

Joan, who was lovingly known as “Jo” by her closest friends, enjoyed an active and fulfilling life. She was well known around town for walking her beloved furry companions, Izzy and Roxy. Joan was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Early Bird Golf League, playing at Brooklane, Downing Farms, and Tanglewood golf courses. She was also an excellent bowler and enjoyed competing in a church league alongside her husband.

Joan loved playing cards with family and friends, especially euchre. She cherished time spent at the family cottages in Port Austin and Mio, where she enjoyed the water, relaxing with a glass of wine, and making memories with those she loved. Joan took a keen interest in the stock market and enjoyed participating in investment clubs in both Michigan and Florida. Although stocks were certainly discussed, the gatherings often revolved just as much around delicious food, good wine, and the enjoyment of spending time with dear friends. Known for her sweet tooth, she firmly believed that dessert should never be skipped. She often joked, "Eat dessert first, life is short!"

Joan loved planning adventures and was always looking forward to her next trip. She traveled extensively throughout the world, visiting countries such as Italy, Egypt, Germany, and France. One of her most memorable adventures was organizing a bike-and-barge tour through France, combining her love of travel, exploration, and spending time with others.

Joan will be remembered as a loving matriarch, devoted to her family and always ready with a warm smile. Affectionately called “Grandma Jo” by her grandchildren, she treasured her role as a grandmother. Independent, strong, and resilient, she faced life's challenges with courage and grace. Her kindness, unwavering love, and positive spirit touched everyone who knew her, and her legacy will continue through the family she cherished so deeply.

Joan is survived by her children, Julie (Tom) Andrews, Jeff (Gale) Roberts, and Jan (Val Pribnow) Roberts; her sister Florence Pangborn; her grandchildren, Kevin Andrews, Brett (Jodi) Roberts, Rebecca (David Cross) Andrews, Brad (Katie) Roberts; and her great grandchildren, Lily, Mason, Bennett, Weston, and Camden. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters, Judy Craig and Bernice Burnett, and her grandson Brandon Roberts.

The family will celebrate Joan’s life at Whole Hearted Winery with her favorite glass of wine, honoring her memory surrounded by love, family, and friends.
