Jean F. Rosselle, age 90, lifelong resident of Northville, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on May 5, 2025. She was born on October 31, 1934 in Plymouth, Michigan; daughter of Charles and Lillian (Henning) Buttermore. She graduated from Northville High School; class of 1952. Jean was united in marriage to Pamphile J. Rosselle, Jr. on April 19, 1956; they spent 39 years lovingly devoted to one another until his death on March 8, 1996.
After graduating, Jean began her career as a bookkeeper at Northville Lumber, where she worked for several years before becoming a cashier at Kroger. She later chose to focus on raising her children and caring for her family. In 1962, Jean and her husband opened Phil’s 76 Service, and she worked alongside him, managing bookkeeping, billing, payroll, and other administrative duties. Once her children were older, Jean returned to the workforce while continuing to support the family business. She joined Northville Public Schools and served in the Elementary Food Service Program for over 20 years before retiring. Remarkably, until just four years ago, Jean was still lending a hand at the family business.
Jean had a passion for cooking and was a gracious host who loved bringing people together. She especially enjoyed entertaining during the holidays and often hosted luncheons for her friends and family, a tradition she proudly upheld for many years. As it became more difficult for her to manage on her own, Jean welcomed the help of her grandchildren, passing on to them her love of entertaining and the joy of hosting. Her home was always beautifully decorated for the season, filled with her extensive collections of Halloween, Christmas, or Easter décor. Halloween held a special place in her heart, as it was also her birthday. Each year, the family would gather to celebrate with dinner and trick-or-treating, creating cherished memories that blended holiday joy with birthday celebration.
Jean had a lifelong love of shopping, always on the hunt for the perfect gift, a unique knickknack, or the next piece of holiday décor, especially when it came with a good deal. A devoted reader, she enjoyed the works of Nora Roberts and similar authors, often losing herself in a good book. Her happiest place was her beloved cottage on Grand Lake in Presque Isle, where she spent every summer with her children and, later, her grandchildren. Those summers were filled with sun-soaked days, quiet moments with a book, paddling in the water, watching her children enjoy watersports, and, most of all, cooking for the people she loved. Jean was a fantastic cook, and everything she made, whether it was her spaghetti or meatballs, specialty salads, quiche, or her fresh-baked brownies and cookies, was a family favorite.
Jean especially cherished the times when her girlfriends visited the cottage. Together, they would explore nearby northern Michigan towns and enjoy meals at their favorite local restaurants. Her heart was always open, especially to children in need, and she welcomed many to her home and dinner table over the years. A true dog lover, she was rarely without a furry companion by her side. Jean was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a dear friend to many. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
Jean is survived by her loving children, Ricke (Nancy) Rosselle, Ronald (Christine) Rosselle, Rodney Rosselle, Renee (Fred) Fisher, and Roxanne Rosselle; her daughter-in-law, Cindy Rosselle; her grandchildren, Randy Rosselle, Kyle Rosselle, Jason Rosselle, Austin Rosselle, Stephen Rosselle, Nichole (Justin) Silkowski, Haley Buck, Tyler Rosselle, Brittney (Andrew) McMullen, and Katie Fisher; and her great grandchildren, Claira, Myra, and Lee. She was preceded in death by her husband; her infant son, Randy; her daughter, Rhonda Rosselle; her son Ryan Rosselle; and her parents.
