James B. Tomlinson, longtime resident of Northville, born February 4, 1941, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather whose life was defined by his dedication to family, hard work, and kindness.
James was the beloved husband of Joyce G. Tomlinson, with whom he shared many years of love and partnership. He was a proud father to D’Andrea (Jeffrey)Byers and Brooks (Michele) Tomlinson, and a cherished grandfather to Brianna Byers, Rebecca Byers, Cory Byers, Alyssa Tomlinson, Cayden Tomlinson, and Noah Tomlinson, who brought him great joy and pride. He was also loved by many nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his brothers, Bowan Tomlinson and Everett Tomlinson and his sisters, Mary King and Virginia Tomlinson.
James believed strongly in the value of education and hard work. He spent 33 years teaching mathematics in the Livonia Public Schools. He began his career in 1965 at Holmes Junior High School, later teaching at Ford Junior High, and eventually Franklin High School. Through the years he influenced countless students with his patience, knowledge, and dedication before retiring in 1998.
He was known for his charming personality and generous spirit. James quietly supported others and often gave to charitable causes. He valued integrity, kindness, and family above all else.
A private gathering will be held for immediate family.
James will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
