James Gerard “Jim” Parvana, age 67, of Novi, Michigan formerly of Malta, New York, passed away September 9, 2025. He was born on September 3, 1958 in Troy, NY, son of Joseph and Constance (Scholan) Parvana. He graduated from Shaker High School in Latham, NY with the class of 1977. Jim was united in marriage to Sharon Lynn Olendorf on July 12, 1986; they spent 39 years lovingly devoted to one another.
Jim dedicated over 25 years of his career as an inside salesman with Weather King Windows and Doors in Farmington. He later continued his work in the industry with Weatherguard Windows before retiring in 2022.
Jim was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church for more than 20 years. He generously gave his time, volunteering with the Youth Club by helping in the kitchen washing dishes, assisting with yard work, and supporting the upkeep of The Path. One of his most cherished traditions was ringing the bell for the Salvation Army each holiday season. For many years, Jim and his wife could be found outside Kroger or in downtown Northville, joyfully greeting passersby, sharing Christmas music from their speaker, and spreading holiday cheer while collecting donations.
Jim was an avid cyclist who rode to stay active and enjoyed the freedom of being on his bike. He often rode through Kensington Metropark, Island Lake, and Hines Park. Jim proudly completed three “Century Rides,” cycling 100 miles in a single day. Two of these were organized events in Holland and Three Oaks, while the third he accomplished on his own, riding from Novi to Willow Metropark in New Boston. Jim loved spending time on the water aboard his Sea Ray 250 power boat, which he kept at Bridgeview Marina on Lake Huron in Sarnia, Canada. A skilled and knowledgeable boater, he was a proud member of the Power Squadrons. Each summer, Jim and his family trailered their boat to Lake George in New York, one of his favorite places at the base of the Adirondacks. While there, they enjoyed countless family outings and took in the scenic views aboard the Minnie-Ha-Ha, a historic paddle steamboat on Lake George. He also enjoyed quiet moments relaxing at home watching car repair and restoration shows on television, along with shows about how things are made and the world’s toughest jobs.
Jim will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and quick wit, often bringing joy and laughter to those around him; especially his wife, whom he could make laugh until her sides ached. A natural storyteller, he kept everyone on the edge of their seats, blending suspense with a great sense of humor. Jim also had a unique talent for voice work and even submitted recordings for professional consideration. Among his favorites were his spot on impressions of Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, which he performed in a recorded Pooh storybook narrated by his wife.
At the center of Jim’s life was his family. He and his wife lovingly called each other “Nessie” or “Ness,” a tender nickname they shared. Jim treasured every moment with his daughters. He proudly coached Jessie’s soccer team and later embraced the role of the ultimate “soccer dad” when she joined the Jaguars, traveling around the country to cheer her on at games and tournaments. Jim and Alex shared special times working on school projects while he frequently shared his wisdom and humor about life lessons until the wee hours of the morning. A true animal lover, Jim was rarely without his beloved Cavachon, Dakota, and he held a special place in his heart for his daughter’s Bernedoodle, Obie. Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the many stories he shared, the joy he brought to others, and the countless memories made with those he loved most.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Parvana; his daughters, Rachel Rider, Alex Parvana, and Jessie (Dylan) Schultz; his grandchildren, Sutton James Schultz, Noah Parvana, Michael Rider, and Max Rider; his siblings, Joey Parvana, Greg (Nancy) Parvana, and Gina (Tim) Dunham; his sister-in-law, Peggy (Starr) Liddle; and his nieces and nephews, Josh Pomory, Chris (Kristen) Pomory, Jonathan (Courtney) O’Neil, Matthew (fiancé Kelsie Sinclair) O’Neil, Kayla Parvana, Lindsey Parvana, Paul (Colleen) Jenkins, Stephen Jenkins, and Ryan (Samantha) Jenkins.
