George Harold Miller

July 3, 1937 — October 16, 2025

George Harold Miller, age 88, a lifetime resident of Northville, passed away on October 16, 2025. He was born on July 3, 1937 in Northville, Michigan; son of George E. and Emily (Petroit) Miller. He graduated from Northville High School, class of 1955. He continued his education at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. George was united in marriage to Carole E. Tabor on December 29, 1967; devoted to their love and life together for over 57 years.

George began his career in sales, working as a door-to-door salesman for an insurance company before joining his father’s business, G.E. Miller Sales & Service. In 1981, he proudly opened his own automotive repair shop, Miller’s Custom Bumping and Painting, which he built through hard work and dedication. Later, he returned to the insurance industry as an adjuster with Crawford & Company, where he worked until his retirement in 2007.

George was immensely proud of the city he grew up in and loved sharing his deep knowledge of Northville’s history with anyone willing to listen. A true people person, he enjoyed his daily breakfast gatherings and coffee meetups with friends. Every Tuesday, he could be found reminiscing about the “good old days” of Northville with his classmates from the Class of 1955. In 2022, George was honored with the Old Timer Senior of the Year Award at the Old Timers Luncheon—a well-deserved recognition from the community he devoted his life to. He was also a past member of the Northville Kiwanis Club, and many will fondly remember him selling Italian sausage during the town festivals.

George loved heading up north to Tawas and West Branch, whether snowmobiling in the winter or riding dune buggies with his family. He also enjoyed spending time on the water, learning how to captain a boat, and especially treasured joining a close friend to escort his boat south for the winter. When his parents wintered on Sanibel Island, Florida, George and his family created countless cherished memories there together. New Years Eve trips were memorable because of George and his dedication to making sure his family was having a fun new experience. George will be remembered for the historical stories he so loved to tell and the kindness he showed to everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

George is survived by his loving wife, Carole Miller; his children, George B. Miller and Lisa (Christopher Byrum) Mote; his brother, Victor (Sandra) Miller; his grandchildren, Michael Mote and Reagan Mote; his nephew, Jody Miller; and his niece, Carrie Bear. He was preceded in death by his parents.
