Fern M. Sweigart, age 98, of Northville, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026. She was born on January 27, 1928, in Reading, Pennsylvania, to Paul and Clara Mae (Hertzog) Labe. On December 6, 1947, she married the love of her life, Clifford E. Sweigart. Together they shared more than 64 years of marriage, building a life centered on love, faith, and family until Clifford’s passing in 2011.
Fern was born and raised in Reading, where she began working as a packer at a local candy factory after finishing school. It was there that she met Clifford, beginning a lifelong partnership that would shape a beautiful family legacy. A devoted homemaker, Fern dedicated herself to caring for her husband, children, and home with unwavering love and commitment.
A lifelong member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Reading, Fern remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. After moving to Northville at the age of 79 to be closer to her family, she attended her daughter’s church and continued to enjoy the fellowship and comfort of her church community.
Fern found great joy in the outdoors and treasured camping adventures with her family. She was a talented baker, especially known for her delicious shoofly cupcakes, which became a favorite among family and friends. She enjoyed word searches, puzzles, board games, and card games, with Yahtzee and UNO among her favorites. Fern also lovingly cared for many of her nieces and nephews over the years, always willing to lend a helping hand and provide support to those she loved.
Above all, Fern’s greatest joy was her family. She was a constant source of love, encouragement, and strength, devoted to her husband and she absolutely adored her children and grandchildren. Her generosity, kindness, and unwavering support touched the lives of everyone around her. Fern’s love for her family knew no bounds, and the memories she created will be cherished for generations to come.
Fern is survived by her children, Barry Sweigart and Donna (Rodney) Johnson; her grandchildren, Jeff Sweigart, Sharon (Aaron) Sweigart-Cordova, Chad (Staci) Schaeffer, and Alicia (Bob) Baker; her great grandchildren, Lydia, Drew, Sophie, Isaac, Penelope, Nayia, Quinn, and Ada; her brother-in-law, Gerald Trupp; and her sister-in-law Pat Sweigart. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter-in-law Lydia Sweigart, and her siblings, Russell Labe, Roger Labe, and Phyllis Trupp.
