Edward J. Beckert, age 92, longtime resident of Northville passed away peacefully at home on November 3, 2025. He was born on January 12, 1933 in Jersey City, New Jersey; son of Ernest and Augusta (Frohenstedt) Beckert. Edward was united in marriage to Elizabeth Doran on July 12, 1969 and they spent 56 years lovingly devoted to one another.
Edward graduated from a Catholic high school in New Jersey and went on to attend St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting. He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Lake Champlain stationed at Mayport, Florida. Edward worked as the Director of Overseas Marketing Analysis for General Motors for over 40 years before retiring in 1996.
Edward was an avid bowler who participated in many leagues over the years. His favorite was the two-person team he shared with his daughter, where together they proudly took first place. In his younger years he also enjoyed playing golf. Edward had a deep love for animals, both domestic and wild. He cherished his loyal companions, his dog Rex and adored his daughter’s dog Duggan. Edward found great joy in the wildlife that visited his backyard for treats, including deer, ducks, and what may have been the fattest squirrels in Northville. Cardinals often joined him on the patio, landing on his table to share a seed or nut as he sat quietly enjoying their company.
Edward was a passionate football fan, with a special loyalty to the Detroit Lions, cheering them on through every season. Edward was always on the go, rarely one to sit still, and he loved to chat about food , especially his next meal. He took great pride in maintaining his home and yard, keeping it free of sticks and leaves. Up until recently, he could still be found mowing his lawn and clearing the snow himself. Edward had a special fondness for Atlantic City, visiting several times a year to enjoy the ocean breeze and spend time with family. He also treasured his trips to Ireland, where he visited his wife’s relatives. Edward was dearly loved; a devoted husband, father, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Edward is survived by his loving wife, Elizbeth “Betty” Beckert; his daughter, Diane (David Borg) Beckert; his sisters-in-law, Theresa Gould, Eileen Clernon, Mary McKeon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister-in-law, Rose McSlorley; and his brothers-in-law, John Doran and Plunkett Doran.
