Dorothy A. Memering, age 90, of Northville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on June 13, 2025. She was born on April 2, 1935 in Blaine, Ohio; daughter of Joseph and Ethel (Norman) Corte. Dorothy married Norman Weeg on November 17, 1956, and they shared over 17 years of love and devotion until his passing on September 8, 1974. Years later, she was fortunate to find love again and married James Memering on March 7, 1992. They spent more than 27 cherished years together until his passing on May 16, 2019.
Dorothy moved with her family to Detroit, Michigan when she was in the fourth grade. She graduated from Western High School in Detroit, class of 1953. After high school, she entered the workforce and began her career in the financial industry as a clerk at NBD Bank of Detroit. She later joined Hogan Financial Services, where she worked as an administrative assistant until her retirement in 1991. After retirement she moved to Vero Beach, Florida with Jim to enjoy the sunshine.
Dorothy was admired by many for her strength, perseverance, and unwavering devotion to her family. After the unexpected loss of her first husband, she raised her daughters to be strong, independent women, guiding her family with joy, love, and resilience. A talented and crafty woman, Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidery and sewing. She was also an avid reader and loved the challenge of crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Even at 90 years old, she continued to crochet, creating doilies and headbands for family.
Dorothy loved hosting gatherings for family, friends, and neighbors—especially during the holidays—always bringing out her fine china to make the moments special. She was a wonderful cook and baker, known for her roast beef and spaghetti. Her baking specialties were homemade apple pies, and cookies including walnut frosties, peanut butter blossoms and chocolate chips. One of Dorothy’s greatest joys was traveling up north with the “Aunts on Tour”, which she shared with her sister and sisters-in-law. It was on these trips, that Dorothy’s sense of humor would really shine. Dorothy was an avid “Michigan Football” fan, much to her brothers’ chagrin. On any given Saturday in the fall, you would find her cheering the Wolverines on.
Above all else, Dorothy cherished her family. She surrounded them with love and affection throughout her life, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children, Lorie (Craig) Williams, Debbie (Pat) McMahon, and Lisa (Jeff) Styers; her brother, George Corte; her grandchildren, Eric Williams, Joey Bledsoe, Jake (Emma) Bledsoe, Leah Styers, Stephanie Nelson, and Sean (Malanie) McMahon; and her great grandchildren, Maddie, Ryder, Vinny, Sylvia, and Scarlett. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Norman Weeg; her second husband James Memering; her brothers, Ralph (Virg) Corte and Joseph (Jean) Corte; her sister Betty (Norris) Yarborough; her sister-in-law, Joyce Corte; and her grandsons, Matt Williams and Christopher McMahon.
