Delores Kaye Eachus

February 6, 1938 — January 8, 2026

Delores Kaye Eachus, age 87, of Plymouth, formerly of Homestead, Florida, passed away on January 8, 2026. She was born on February 6, 1938 in Ann Arbor, Michigan; daughter of Felix and Nina (Rehberg) Hutchinson. Delores was united in marriage to Beryl Hines , with whom she shared many devoted years until his passing. She later found love again with Jack Eachus and they were united in marriage on May 17, 1980. Delores and Jack shared 45 years together until his death in 2025.

Delores graduated from Dundee High School with the Class of 1956 and remained closely connected to her classmates throughout the years, faithfully attending class reunions. After high school, she began a distinguished career with Pan Am, starting as a stewardess on domestic routes before rising through the ranks to become a director. She retired in 1991 when Pan Am ceased operations.

Never one to stop learning or serving others, Delores returned to school and earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the South Florida College of Nursing. She went on to work as a Registered Nurse at Baptist Health Homestead Hospital, where she spent many dedicated years caring for patients before being appointed Senior Administrator over nursing. Respected and admired by both colleagues and patients, Delores received numerous awards and her family lovingly referred to her as their “Nurse of the Year.” Her love of people and commitment to helping others continued until 2022, when she finally retired at the remarkable age of 84.

Delores truly embodied the meaning of a life well lived. She loved being the center of attention and was always impeccably dressed, never without her signature red lipstick. Her life was filled with joy, laughter, and a deep love of community. Together, Delores and her husband Jack built a beautiful life rich with adventure and shared passions. They met through the Miami Ski Club and bonded over their love of skiing, taking memorable trips to Vail and honeymooning in Switzerland. Their adventures carried them across the globe, visiting countless destinations, with their final great journey being a safari in Africa, where time spent with the gorillas became one of the highlights of her life.

Delores and Jack built a stunning custom home, where she delighted in caring for animals, including peacocks, and growing avocados on their ranch. She had a special love for her cats and was deeply committed to responsible pet ownership, actively supporting the trapping, neutering, and spaying of feral cats. A familiar sight in the neighborhood, Delores and Jack could often be found riding together on their bicycle built for two. Each year, they shared a handwritten Christmas letter, lovingly recounting their many adventures and the life they cherished together.

Delores expressed her artistic side through painting, with a special talent for capturing beach landscapes. She also enjoyed performing and was a member of a Miami-based dance troupe known as the Gold Diggers, where she delighted audiences with pantomime and other skits. A devoted football fan, Delores followed her favorite teams, most notably the University of Michigan and the Detroit Lions.

Delores’s greatest joy was her family. She shared a close and cherished bond with her sister, a relationship that ultimately drew her back to Michigan later in life. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Delores is lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Eachus; her first husband, Beryl Hines; her sister, Ellis Faye Ackerman; her brother-in-law, Richard Ackerman; her brother, William Hutchinson; and her sister-in-law, Connie Hutchinson.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
