David George Townsend, 79, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Detroit, Dave attended Cooley High School with the class of 1964. He met his future wife, Carol Sciantarelli, when he was 17. The two grew up together in every sense—raising their daughters while they both worked toward their college degrees. Dave earned an Undergraduate Degree in Marketing from Wayne State University and later a Master’s Degree in Business from Central Michigan University.
Dave spent more than 35 years with Ford Motor Company in the Parts & Service Division, where he made lifelong friends. His career helped him build the life he dreamed of, including a home on Cass Lake where family and friends gathered for countless good times, especially out on the water with Dave as the most hospitable captain.
Anyone who knew Dave will remember his friendly smile, sense of humor, and the easy, welcoming way he carried himself. His greatest joy was being a grandfather; he was always involved, helpful, cheering, and endlessly proud. Dave loved traveling with Carol to the Florida Keys, boating, dancing, and laughing. He made everything an adventure and always “showed up” when needed no matter how long the road trip. Dave had a special love for Yorkshire Terriers, especially his most recent Dorry who was incredibly dear to his heart.
Dave is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter Shannon and her husband Douglas Moore; daughter Christine and her husband Mark Romness; grandchildren Anna Romness and partner Brandon Watts, William Romness, Lee Moore and wife Abby, Paul Moore, and Jane Romness; and great-granddaughter Alice Moore. He is also survived by his brother Melvin (Charlotte) Townsend, sister Wendy (Carl) Mersch, brothers-in-law Paul Sciantarelli, Dan (Lecia Fearing) Sciantarelli, and Mark (Dawn) Munoz; sister-in-law Patti (Jerry) Coleman; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. Along with the many friends and neighbors who became like extended family, including their children, all of whom he came to know so well. Dave was preceded in death by his father Melvin A. Townsend and mother Geraldine Townsend (Roulston), who were originally from Canada, where Dave still has family.
A celebration of Dave’s life is planned for January 2026 at the First United Methodist Church of Northville. Final details will be shared once confirmed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michigan Parkinson’s Foundation https://parkinsonsmi.org/.
Dave will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
