Bruce W. Fry, age 59, of Northville, formerly of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away on May 29, 2025. He was born on August 21, 1965 in Kalamazoo; son of Kay A. (Strobbe) Hartley and William F. Fry. Bruce proudly graduated from Hackett High School in Kalamazoo with the class of 1983. He continued his studies at Western Michigan University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Integrated Supply Management.
Bruce had a long and successful career with Johnson Controls, where he served as Vice President of Procurement of Materials for North America, South America, and Asia. His role took him around the world and included a three-year residency in Shanghai, China. Most recently, Bruce held the position of Vice President of Purchasing at Cooper Standard, a role he greatly valued for the opportunity it gave him to stay closer to home and spend more time with his family.
While living in China, Bruce met Q Wang, whom he married on October 17, 2005. After returning to the United States, Q adopted the name Maggie. The couple shared 20 years of marriage before eventually parting ways. Together, they had two sons, whom Bruce loved deeply and cherished spending time with. A devoted and supportive father, Bruce especially enjoyed cheering them on as they played football for Northville High School.
Bruce took great pride in caring for his home and yard, enjoying the time he spent working outdoors. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid traveler. Bruce visited many exotic destinations around the world. However, his greatest joy and sense of peace came from fly fishing, a passion he pursued as often as possible. He especially loved his days spent on the Ossowo River, fishing with flies he had tied himself. It was his dream to one day open his own fly-fishing shop. Whether traveling the world for work, casting a line on a quiet river, or cheering from the sidelines at his sons’ football games, Bruce lived life with passion and purpose. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bruce is survived by his loving sons, Sean Fry and Ethan Fry; his mother, Kay Hartley; his father, William Fry; his siblings, Brian Fry and Mary Kay (Michael) Farrell; his nieces and nephews, Michael (Rachel) Farrell, Jr., Matthew (Tara) Farrell, Mitchell Farrell, Kaitlin (Matt) Leffler, and Madison Fry; his great nieces and great nephews, Jessie, Maverick, Madden, Tatum, and Paisley; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Bruce is also survived by his stepbrothers, William Hartley Jr., Daniel Hartley, Chris Hartley, and Garry Hartley and his stepsister, Deb Weststrate. He was preceded in death by his stepdad William Hartley, his brother, Brett Fry, and his great nephew, Ezra Farrell.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to Shriners Children’s, Processing Center, PO Box 947765, Atlanta, GA 30394.
